HAPPY NEW YEAR

We had a successful year in 2013 working with over 3,000 people through interactive arts intervention in direct workshops, events in the Staffordshire area. We have a new fully committed board of trustees who are pushing on into 2014 with great gusto to bring interactive social arts to people from all walks of life who will benefit from the intervention.

As you can see we have a comprehensive project package taking us into the New Year alongside our Event Kids Karnival which will be on 27^th July 2014 at Etruria Park this year with an emphasis on themes surrounding happiness, healthiness and staying safe, Kids karnival will feature alongside other events planned in the city over the next 12 months.  

At the start outreach project

The DJ school Association are looking to work with schools, youth groups, community group’s mental health facilities and higher education facilities.

The At the Start project bridges and fosters themes of positive thing, health lives and safety and community cohesion and intervention based social arts to develop and nurture new skills and to encourage a positive outlook on lives moving forward. Partners will be at the forefront for targeted planning for their cohort. Anyone interested in becoming a partner on this exciting new project please contact Sarah at info@djschool.org.uk.

OPEN DAY 

Saturday 22^nd February 2014 11.30am till 3pm celebrating 7 years at the Urban arts centre with an eclectic mix arts and performances. New learners will be able to enrol on new programmes on the day.

Current projects

·       Melody Makers- percussion and play workshops for 4-8 years Saturday’s -11 till 2pm. Teas coffees and snacks

·       Adult music drop-in- Multi- arts and music for unemployed , disabled adults and carers-Tuesday / Wednesday 11am till 2pm.#

·       ISA- for all people who will benefit from confidence, life planning and development skills intervention –time-throughout the week via private sessions. “A personal investment in  your future”#

·       DJ Lessons- all levels –by arrangement. #

·       Poetry group- bring along poems to our friendly impersonal group with professional help-Wednesday’s 1.30 Till 3pm

·       Nocn in music and arts -all levels –ages 16 +apply for details.#

By now Sasha will have arrived in Nairobi for her 10 day trip as part of the Dream Teens Project.

Sasha Goes to Kenya!

On February 15th Sasha Thaw of Stoke-on-Trent will be setting off for Kenya, with the help of the DJ School. She will be heading to Nairobi as part of a leadership project as part of a local 'Dreams and Teens' program. Along with a group of 12 others she will be going into primary schools teaching PE to Kenyan children.

"I can't wait to go, it's a great opportunity" said the 16 year old student from Holden Lane High school.

Steve Simcock of DPC Accountants was nominated as Treasurer and elected by unanimous vote.
Avon Alcock of the Etruria Park Association (Chairman) was nominated and elected as Co-opted Advisor (on behalf of local business) / Trustee
Marie Liddle of the Canal Residents Association (Secretary) was nominated and elected as Co-opted Advisor (on behalf of local residents) / Trustee

Resignations from the Board
Wayne Eardley resigned from the board as Co-opted Trustee
Lynne Jennings resigned from the board as Co-opted Trustee
The DJ School Association and its trustees would like to extend their gratitude to both Wayne and Lynne for their services to the charity.

Employment & Arts Training Programme (EAT)

It's not too late to enroll for our Autumn term programme of adult learning! It may be the middle of October already but there's still 6 weeks left and if you want to join us, you're welcome to.

Whatever your talent or interest, if you're into rapping, DJing, MCing, singing, music, dance, art, drama, script writing, story writing or any creative or performing art, we can help you develop your talent and help you with the skills to start making a living form your talent.

We have a qualified team, including a performing arts tutor who has been a successful working artist in his own right for nearly 20 years, with many more years experience in the business and a fully qualified basic skills tutor who is a working freelance artist and can help you organise and market your potential business.

Sessions cost just £3 per person and everyone is welcome to apply. There are no prerequisites for our courses except a little bit of talent and a lot of enthusiasm. We can even arrange times to suit you, whether you want to have private sessions or group workshops.

Thanks to everyone who has enquired about our new Autumn Adult Training Program.

Here are the answers to a couple of frequently asked questions:

How much do sessions cost?
Sessions cost £3 per person, regardless of how many are in your group or if you work on your own.

When do sessions run?
We can arrange sessions to suit your needs from Monday - Saturday, from 11am onwards. We can discuss when and how often you would like to come at enrolment.

Is it accredited?
Our courses are accredited by OCN. DJs can take baisc, intermediate and advanced level OCN accredited certificates. We are waiting for confirmation of the same for Drama and IT. Other courses receive an OCN accredited certificate of completion.

Do you have a website?
Yes, the website for the EAT program is here. It is run by the DJ School Association.
